A COMMEMORATION OF ALAN
TUESDAY 13TH DECEMBER 2005
Thanks to Ann and LEH's efforts, there was a "gathering" staged at LEH to mark the 1 year's commemoration of Alan's death.
Present were members of Alan's family, friends of his family and many members of the LEH staff. The occasion would be marked by the planting of three trees (and placing a bench!) on the front (croquet) lawn of the school in dedication to Alan's memory.
The event was staged at lunchtime, and was heralded in equal parts by the LEHS' current Head Mistress Gillian Low, the Bursar there Mr. Nigel Noble and Nick Sizer, Alan's son.
On his own part as well as Alan's partner Ann Gray, Nick wrote this message to LEH in thanks:
...I would like to express deep gratitude to all at LEH who surveyed the proceedings on Tuesday, as well as those who helped set-up the event (as I like to call it!) and Mrs de Lorenzo for a very particular contribution! A special thanks to both you & Ann for being instrumental is that important I mention it here also!
Tuesday was always going to be difficult, but you all made it that much easier. Thank you.
On the day in question, all went ahead as expected:
- Gilliam Low spoke to the congregation of Alan and the occasion;
- Nick read words of Ann's and then thanked all those who assisted in making the event take place;
- and after the ceremony LEH very kindly hosted the whole party for a light lunch. Nick wishes to send his complements to the catering staff!
By special request of Ann (and with great approval from Nick's!) before the fine food was sampled, Elisabeth de Lorenzo of LEHS' languages dept. toasted Alan and the throng in Spanish, to a particular script Alan loved as well as words of her own choice.
Photo's of the event have been received, and copies will be available here for viewing soon.
